Spring 2022 Updates

Classes,

Studio Updates,

and General Well-Wishes

from Krista at MVP

Happy Almost Spring!

Hello, Dear Pilates Friends!

It’s a lovely day during a very busy week for me and MVP. I hope you are enjoying some spring-like weather, and calming COVID fears, despite the tragedy and strife happening in Ukraine.

Lots of things going on, and I have a couple of quiet hours here in my home studio (AKA “The Aquarium”), so I thought it might be time for an update.

Things are buzzing! We are finally back to almost pre-COVID attendance at the studio.

We have a new reformer (it’s gorgeous), several teachers at a time in the space, new flowers on the patio, a new Teachers’ Lounge where the “Office” used to be, and we have new clients joining in the fun practically every day.

Hooray! (And…Exhale.)

A Bit About Our Business Structure

In case you didn’t know, I have transitioned the structure of the studio. As of last summer, every teacher at MVP is their own stand-alone business, and MVP is the host studio for all these fine and talented folks. So this email update pertains to MVP as a host studio as well as me as a Pilates teacher. All other Affiliated Teachers at MVP manage their own policies, schedules, and sessions.

I’m calling myself the Movement Matchmaker, and when new clients come along, I match the potential client to someone I think will be a good fit for them in terms of style, schedule, etc. It’s working out wonderfully! The vibe is very harmonious, supportive and productive.

I’m working on building out the MVP website to feature bios and contact information for all of our Affiliated Teachers. I’m also working on hiring someone to help me manage the copious amounts of administrative work I need to do so I can have more time to focus on my clients.

Read on for a few more exciting bits of info, take good care of yourselves, and enjoy your March Matness!

Small Group Class Opportunities

I’ve added a few group classes on the calendar!

Ideally, I’d like to build stable groups, in order that everyone in class can keep progressing and improving…so an ongoing commitment from participants would be fabulous.

MIXED LEVEL PILATES REFORMER

  • Mondays at 11am—Starts Monday, March 14

  • Capacity: 4 people per class.

If we have enough interest, this will become a regular offering on the calendar! Beginners are welcome, but I highly encourage a private or two if you are brand new.

I have a few openings for privates here and there. Click to schedule.

PILATES LAB - A SEMI-PRIVATE WORKOUT EXPERIENCE

Pilates Lab is a chance for you to strengthen your Pilates practice in a supported, semi-independent atmosphere. You will have the chance to work on the equipment of your choice (depending on availability), take responsibility for the pace and direction of your workout, and Krista will be available for questions, spotting, and general encouragement!

This is just like how the OG Pilates studio worked! (Click for some interesting history.)

Capacity for Pilates Lab: 5–6 clients at a time

PILATES LAB DATES: (more will be available, according to demand)

  • Friday, March 11: 3:30pm

  • Saturday, March 19: 10:00am

  • Friday, April 8: 3:30pm

  • Saturday, April 16: 10:00am

    More to come!

Construction in Montclair

The City of Oakland has multiple construction projects going on currently, and Montclair Village is no exception!

Mountain Blvd has recently been re-paved. Antioch Court (the street directly under our studio) has not been re-paved yet because there is an ongoing plan to improve the entire street, enabling the area to become a “Village Plaza,” with gathering place for events, outdoor recreation, and more. See the link below for more detailed information.

Also: the restaurant space below MVP next door to Peet’s is currently being renovated to bring the Village a new restaurant. Yay!

There is definitely noise associated with these exciting improvements. We can’t predict construction schedules, so there could be some outside noise during your session. We do our best to minimize distractions in the studio, and we appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we prepare to receive much-needed improvements in our immediate neighborhood.

Please give yourself a little extra time to park and get situated as you arrive for your sessions.

COVID/Safety Updates

LET’S KEEP THOSE MASKS ON… FOR NOW. (?)

Despite recent “un-masking” policies in California and the Bay Area, we are continuing to keep our masks on in the studio for now. This could change soon. Once we get a little more information about how other indoor spaces are faring without masks, we’ll update our policies. Thanks!

REMINDER:

24-HOUR CANCELLATION POLICY

Life has been pretty chaotic in the last couple of years, and our calendars definitely reflect as much. Yikes! So. Many. Plans. Changed.

I have suspended many “late cancel” fees during the last 2 years, and I’m just not able to afford to be as flexible moving forward. Thank you so much for understanding that I will need to be more strict about the 24 Hour Cancellation Policy in order to ensure stability and sustainability for my own and MVP’s schedule.

You Made It! The End!

…And thank you for being a friend! (To quote a certain inspirational 80’s tv sitcom…)

P.S. Here’s a reward for reading all the way through…

A quick side-lying hip & glute workout you can do along with me in my Online “Pilates Aquarium!”

Here you go!

It’s a real quick mini hip & glute workout—part of my most-requested Mat Class series!
